Protect Your Computer With avast! Free Antivirus

Saving money is good. Exposing your computer to dangers like viruses and spyware is not. Unfortunately many people depend on outdated protection to keep their computer safe.

Most new computers do have a trial version of some famous-brand antivirus product pre-installed, and it will function normally for a month or two …or maybe even a year. But when the trial period expires, the computer is no longer fully protected, because the antivirus is no longer receiving updates to enable it to catch and eliminate the newest viruses. Many people choose to rely on outdated antivirus software in order to save money.

A much better solution is avast! Free Antivirus 5.0 from ALWIL Software, now in Version 5.0. The popularity of earlier versions of avast! made it the world’s most popular free antivirus program, with over 100 million users. New avast! 5.0 has new features and a new interface, and performs impressively in virus and spyware elimination tests. The new 5.0 edition of avast! is free for non-business home users; the “Pro” version is available for business use and has additional features and customization options.

The new avast! Free Antivirus 5.0 includes…

  • Transparent scanning of all files, programs and email
  • Automatic updates
  • Improved antivirus and anti-spyware engine
  • Scanning on-demand
  • Scheduled scanning
  • Impressive anti-spyware and anti-root-kit protection
  • Online tech support

You can download avast! Free Antivirus 5.0 from http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

I have recommended previous versions of avast! for years, and have had many people tell me that it removed viruses and spyware left behind by other products.

avast! Free Antivirus 5.0 runs on any recent version of Microsoft Windows: Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7 (32/64 bit)

Before installing new antivirus software, be sure to uninstall any existing antivirus software

Can one have too many types of software to keep malware and viruses from entering one’s computer? Recently I purchased a Dell Laptop at Wal-mart that has Windows 7 operating system on it, and I’ve had a devil of a time adjusting from my familiar Windows XP and the various softwares I liked to use like WORD and Adobe Photoshop. Two computer tech friends advised me to uninstall the McAfee that was on it and download free Avast, which I did. One of them advised downloading Spyware Blaster to prevent malware from entering my computer. I had already been using SUPERAntiSpyware to stop my old laptop from going to malicious websites, so I downloaded that also. Now I am have problems besides the adjustment to different ways of using the new laptop. I have partially installed something called Cyberdefender and one called Browser Defender. Now I would like to uninstall, and it will not do it. I am suspecting both are bad stuff. Any advice?

Hi MaeDean… Thanks for sharing your experience. Let me offer a couple of ideas that may help you:

One thing that everyone needs to be aware of these days is “Rougue Security Software” …utilities that (at best) make bogus claims about finding malware on a healthy computer, or (at worst) actively install malicious software on your computer. Microsoft has a good article on rouge security software: Watch out for fake virus alerts

Regarding Cyberdefender — I am not familiar with this product — but from Google, I can see that quite a few people seem to have had concerns about it, and difficulty uninstalling it.

To get rid of it, here are a few suggestions:

1) If you installed Cyberdefender recently, probably the easiest method is use the System Restore feature of Windows to “roll back” to a checkpoint prior to when you installed it. If possible, do this.

2) If you can’t use System Restore, you can try to use another program to help with the uninstall. To do this, it may be necessary to Start your computer in safe mode. Here are a couple suggestions:

I regularly use Revo Uninstaller Freeware to uninstall programs.

Another good program that may help (and also has a free version) is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

From Google I see that people have reported using both Revo and Malwarebytes to remove Cyberdefender, so I would suggest starting with those two programs.

I hope this helps! Please let me know what happens.

Professor, I just wanted to acknowledge that it seems at this moment my new laptop is operating normally. I am keeping my fingers crossed tho. I downloaded Revo Uninstaller Freeware, and it seems to have uninstalled all the suspicious programs that were slowing down my new computer.
